For if everyone were allowed a free hand, little by little the entire Body of the Church would be destroyed.” (St. John of Damascus) He reminds us how important it is for us to continue to uphold the orthodox teachings of the Church, while being open to the move of the Holy Spirit in coming to a deeper understanding of the richness of our faith. Like a rose bud, the truth is contained in the bud but the fuller understanding and appreciation of the truth becomes more evident as the rose unfolds.
