Thought of the Day Mercy in Scripture: Cain

Cain kills Abel
1.       Justice: God tells Cain that because of his murderous deed, he has been cursed. Genesis 4:12 "When you work the land, it will not give you its fruit; a vagrant and a fugitive shall you be upon the land.”
2.       Mercy: Genesis 4:15 "And the Lord placed a seal upon Cain, so that anyone who found him would not put him to death."

As we reflect on God’s mercy during this Jubilee Year, how often has God shown us his mercy in spite of our sinfulness? We may not have killed anyone, but in our heart we have sinned against others in a variety of ways. How do we respond to this mercy?
