We read in the First Book of Samuel these words. “Does the LORD so delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obedience to the command of the LORD? Obedience is better than sacrifice.” Obedience is a central expectation of God from us in our relationship with him. It reflects that God is the beginning and end of all and that we are creatures under God, not equal to God. What was the central hallmark of Jesus’ relationship in his humanity to the Father? “I have come to do the will of him who sent me.” How obedient am I to the will of God in my life? To sin is to be disobedient. To embrace the will of God is to be obedient.
