Thought of the Day March 5, 2018 Mourn over our sins
We continue our reflections on the Beatitudes. What does Jesus mean when he says, “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.”(Mt 5:5)? We are called to mourn over our sins and the sins of others. Sin separates us from experiencing God’s love in a transforming way. Even though we repent of our sins, they have left a scar on us. It is out of a realized love of God’s mercy for us and a conscious response on our part to love that we remember and anguish over our past sins. We do this not in a negative way, but to pray for God’s grace to remain faithful. We don't want ever again to become complacent or comfortable with sin. The comfort God gives us is the strength of his promise to give us the grace we need in time of temptation.
