Thought of the Day May 7, 2018 Praise as a shield
Praising God is a deterent to the Evil One, who wants
to take our focus off God and put it on ourselves.
In the story of Jehoshaphat, we see God
miraculously defeat the enemy, because of the people’s obedience to praise Him.
“As they began to sing and praise, the
Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who
were invading Judah, and they were defeated” 2 Chron. 20:22
The Evil One cannot stand the praises of God. He wants to separate us from God. When we praise God we are acknowledging God for who He is and for what He has done. It draws us closer to God and all of the angels and saints in the sacrifice of praise.
Sometimes we spend our time fighting the Evil One (which we need to do) instead of focusing more on the Lord, who fights our battles. He is our defender. Our example comes from Jesus. When tempted, he focused on the Father and not on the Evil One. Praise of God is our shield.
