Thought of the Day August 1, 2018 God's love
Even when he disciplined Israel God
showed his love.
God loves the righteous and the
poor, the lowly and the
downtrodden.
God's
love is beautifully expressed in Ho 2:16-22: "So
I will
allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak to her
heart....I
will make a covenant with them on that day...I will
espouse you to me forever;
I will espouse you in right and
justice, in love and mercy. I will espouse you
in fidelity and
you shall know the Lord."
God's love is seen in his patience with the
people of the Old
Covenant and in his patience with us. 2 Pet 3:8-9
God's love is seen in Eph 2:3-8
God's love is seen in the person of the Word
that became
flesh for us. "God
so loved the world that he sent his son that
whoever believes may not die but
have eternal life." Jn 3:16
"The
love of God has been poured out in our hearts through
the Holy Spirit who has
been given to us." (Rom 5:5
God's love is seen in the death of Jesus on
the cross. "Greater
love has no one than to lay down
his life for his friends." Jn
15:13
God's love is made undeniably explicit as Paul
tells us: "It is
precisely in this that God proves h
is love for us: that while we
were still sinners, we were reconciled to him by
the death of
his son." Rom 5:8
Whether we acknowledge any of this or not, it is uncontestably
true. This is how good
God has been and is and will be.
