Thought of the Day August 8, 2018 Share the goodness of the Lord
See the goodness of the Lord: To acknowledge and proclaim. The goodness of the Lord is not just for the individual’s appreciation and satisfaction alone. An art masterpiece hidden in a vault for my eyes only is a scandal and a sin against humanity. It’s beauty is be seen and shared with others.
God’s goodness is to be shared, proclaimed to others, so that they too can taste and see the same goodness and be affected by it. It is one thing to share bread with the beggar but it is more important that we show the beggar where the bread is.
Mary not only experienced the goodness of the Lord to her in the Annunciation and in the visitation to Elizabeth, but she proclaim that personal experience when she exclaimed that hymn we called her Magnificat. Zechariah, Simeon and Anna did the same.
We too are called to proclaim the goodness of the Lord; to be witnesses of the Good News which we have heard, accepted, experienced, been transformed by. It now must be told.
With the writer of the First Letter of John we too are to proclaim: “What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked upon and our hands have touched, we speak of the Word of Life...what we have seen and heard, we are to proclaim in turn to you so that you too may have fellowship with us; for our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.” (1:1-3)
