Thought of the Day Advent Week 2 Jesus will come again for his elect
Advent Week 2: Jesus will come in glory and majesty
Day 1:
In the Creed we proclaim: He will come again in glory. Jesus himself stated this a number of times as quoted in the Scriptures: "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (Matthew 24:30-31)
When we talk about Jesus’s second coming in glory, we can look at it from two different aspects. One, it definitely means that Jesus will come at the end of time in glory as he came historically in time to save us. Two, it also means that when we die we will see Jesus in all his glory. In either case, it says that one purpose of his coming will be to gather his elect. Who are the elect? Those who are found in union with him when he comes at the end or at the time of our death.
His coming again is a fact of divine revelation, just as his first coming is an historical fact. Advent is a time to recall and be prepared for this ultimate second coming. What if he came today for me and you, are we ready to go with him as his elect?
Come,
Lord Jesus, come!
