Thought of the Day Advent Week 3 Day 2 Jesus comes in the Eucharist
Advent Week 3 Jesus comes in the Eucharist
Day
2
“Behold, I
stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,
[then] I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me.” (Revelations 3:20)
Why
does Jesus want to enter into our hearts and lives? Why does he want to share a
meal with us? He desires to remain in us
and we in him, sharing his life. This meal is the Eucharist, the gift of his
Body and Blood. “Whoever eats* my flesh and
drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and
my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in
him.” (John 6:54-56)
Jesus comes to us in the present moment in the
mystery of the Eucharist. In faith, we prepare to receive him and in faith we
share in his divine life in a new way each time we eat his Body and drink his
Blood. How conscious do I prepare to receive him? How conscious am I of his
mysterious presence within me after I consume the gift? How conscious am I of
his sustaining presence long after I have left the Church?
Come,
Lord Jesus, come!
