Thought of the Day May 29, 2019 Release of the grace of Baptism

"Here, then, is what I feel to be the significance of the Baptism in the Spirit. It is God’s answer to the malfunctioning that has grown up in the Christian life in the sacrament of Baptism, namely a bound Sacrament."

"Its effectiveness in reactivating Baptism consists in this: Finally man contributed his part--namely, he makes a choice of faith, prepared in repentance, that allows the work of God to set itself free and to emanate all its strength. It is as if the light is switched on. The gift of God is finally “unbound”, and the Spirit is allowed to flow like a fragrance in the Christian life"

This new release that opens our hearts to the fuller plan of God revealed in the person of the Word of God, Jesus the Christ, usually is initiated because of hearing the Gospel message in a fresh new way. Recall the experience of-the two disillusioned disciples on the road to Emmaus on Easter. We read (Lk 24:25-27).  Then in the breaking of the bread through the eyes of faith they realized that the risen Jesus had encountered them. What was their response? (Lk 24:32) Even though they were familiar with these significant passages, the grace of God in the moment had a different result in them which was coupled with the transforming encounter.

Before that grace moment which we call BIS, we could identify with Jesus statement of the two disciples. Like them, we were sacramentally baptized and confirmed, but something was missing. (Lk 24: 25-26)
