Thought of the Day June 25, 2019 Meeting with the Father
(Continuing Our Glorious Inheritance)
What will our
inheritance, eternal life, look like in human terms according to God’s
revelation? Paul tells us: “What eye has not seen, and ear
has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what
God has prepared for those who love him, this God has
revealed to us through the Spirit.” (1 Cor 2:9-10)
Here is what St. John Paul II said about
this reality we call heaven: “In the context of Revelation, we know that the ‘heaven’ or
‘happiness’ in which we will find ourselves is neither an abstraction nor a
physical place in the clouds but a living, personal relationship with the Holy
Trinity. It is our meeting with the Father that takes place in the risen Christ
through the communion of the Holy Spirit.” (July 21, 1999)
If
eternal life is this “meeting with the Father that takes place in the risen
Christ through the communion of the Holy Spirit, then the blessing that comes
from this union is that we will see God as he is. So we read in the First
Letter of John: “Beloved, we
are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know
that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as
he is. Everyone who has this hope
based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.” (3:2-3)
