Thought of the Day August 16, 2019 Sin is pervasive
Each
of us is a sinner. Sin is pervasive. James’ Letter unequivocally
states: Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts,
you of two minds. Begin to
lament, to mourn, to weep. (James 4:8-9). And sin is deadly. Again James: “Rather, each person is tempted when he is lured
and enticed by his own desire. Then desire conceives and brings forth sin, and
when sin reaches maturity it gives birth to death. (James 1:14-15)
Paul
states in Romans: “all have
sinned and are deprived of the glory of God.” (Rom 3:23)
And again in Ephesians: “You were dead in your transgressions and sins
in which you
once lived following the age of this world, following the
ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the
disobedient. All of us
once lived among them in the desires of our flesh, following the wishes of the
flesh and the impulses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest.” (Ephesians 2:1-3)
We
are far too hospitable with our sin. Our hearts are callously numb at times.
Instead of uprooting our sin at its core, we are feeding it. Instead of
loathing our sin we are loving it. Instead of destroying our sin we are
desiring it.
