Thought of the Day September 27, 2019 Righteousness
What do you hunger and thirst for? For a
good family, a comfortable life, to be accepted by others, to be well-liked, to
be a successful, to win the lottery?
What is Jesus asking you to hunger and
thirst for? Righteousness.
Scripture tells us that only God is
righteous. Paul says: “It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus,
who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification,
and redemption, I Cor 1:30 Jeremiah had prophesied this when he said: “In those days, at that time, I will make a just
shoot spring up for David; he shall do what is right and just in the land.” Jeremiah
33:15
What is righteousness? Having been
justified by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior,
we seek to share in his righteousness by living in right relationship with God.
God
initiates our salvation by his grace, but he doesn't stop there. Our works of
obedience which follow the start of God's salvific action in us are also the
work of grace. Paul confirms this in 2 Cor 5:21: “For our sake he made
him to be sin who did not know sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.(2
Cor 5:21)
