Thought of the Day April 17, 2020 Easter joy
“Joy
is the fruit of the Holy Spirit....Without the Spirit, we cannot have joy. To
receive the joy of the Spirit is a grace.” (Pope Francis)
As
we read and reflect on the Resurrection of Jesus, one of the consistent
experiences of the various witnesses is that of joy. Yes, there was initial
fear, because they had never seen a glorified, risen body. But as Jesus spoke
to them, their fear turned into great joy. He spoke peace, love, mercy and
forgiveness.
Is
joy a fact of our life? Does our faith in our Risen Lord bring us a real
interior joy, which is not subject to the surrounding circumstances? This joy
of, from and in the Lord is a grace from the Holy Spirit. As authentic love in
us manifested to others is a witness of the life of Christ in us, so is the
witness of true joy.
Let
our joy proclaim to others that Jesus, who is risen, is the true Lord of our
lives.
