Thought of the Day August 31, 2020 The mystery of God
The mystery of God
In his First Letter to the Corinthians chapter 2:1 St. Paul
speaks of the mystery of God. “When I came to you, brothers and sisters,
proclaiming the mystery of God, I did not come with sublimity of words or of
wisdom.” What is the mystery of God? It
is the sum of the revelation of God that could only be known by faith. We have
the gift of human knowledge that allows us to comprehend the depths of
creation. But this gift is limited to what we can see and touch. But there is a
vast knowledge that is outside of the scope of our human ability to know and
understand.
St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans explained this mystery
of God in this way. “Oh, the depths of the richness of the wisdom and knowledge
of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments, and how unsearchable are his
ways!” (Romans 11:33)
But God in his great love for us has enable us to embrace the mystery of God in faith. This faith is based on a personal relationship with Jesus, who is the Word of God. How blessed are we! But the mystery of God will remain such even in heaven, where faith will still be our only way of comprehending. Thank you, God, for your great love for us.
