Thought of the Day September 3, 2020 Mystery: Salvation
That we have
been redeemed, reconciled and saved from the eternal consequences of our sins
is a mystery revealed to us by God. How else would we know that the death of
the Son of Man by crucifixion was to this end? Imperfect as we are, we could
not save ourselves by any human sacrifice, even if we gave up our lives. Only
the sacrifice of a perfect person, God become Man, could become our
justification.
Jesus, though
sinless, took upon himself the sins of the world, so that through his death of
expiation, he might nail them to the cross. He paid the price in full. His
death for our salvation; his suffering for our freedom! What pleased the Father
was not the death oh his beloved Son. Rather, it was the choice of Jesus to do
the will of the Father out of filial love, even it meant giving his life so we
could have eternal life.
So what should
our response be for such a great gift? “Stand
firm, and do not be willing to be again held by the yoke of servitude.
(Galatians 5:1)
