Thought of the Day October 5, 2020 God wills
"He (God) does not call those who are worthy, but those whom He will. As St. Paul says: 'God will have mercy on whom He will have mercy. So then it is not of him that will, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy' (Romans 9:15-16)" (St. Therese of Lisieux)
How often we get caught in the trap of worthiness or unworthiness. What is the trap? The focus is on us. The fact is the focus should be on God. He chooses whom he chooses as he wills. Paul tells us that God chooses the weak to confound the strong and the foolish to confound the wise. None of us is worthy of any of the graces that God lavishes on us. We are simply unworthy, because we are all sinners. Rather than focus on that, we should respond to God's generosity with gratitude and love. As Paul reminds us: There go I but for the grace of God.
