Thought of the Day December 22, 2020 Joseph's obedience
“And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.” (Lk 2:4-5)
What were Joseph’s thoughts?
When God made it clear to him through an Angel that Mary was with child, not by
the action of another man, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, he obediently
did what God asked him to do. He took Mary into his house. It was God’s will
and he loved Mary. He was called to provide and protect Mary and to father the
child that is the Son of God. His plans once again have to change to fit into
God’s plan. According to the sacred scriptures, the child was to born in
Bethlehem. In obedience to God, he accompanies Mary to the City of David, not
so much because of a census, but because of God’s plan. All along the journey,
he kept his eye on Mary and her condition as he prayed for God’s guidance and
strength to make the right decisions. He didn’t know what laid ahead, but he
did know that God will show him the way.
