Thought of the Day April 1, 2021 Holy Thursday, beginning of the Sacred Tridium
Today, we begin the Sacred Tridium of the holiest week of the year for us Christians. During these three days we will remember, commemorate, make present and participate in the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Tonight's celebration of the Lord's Supper has a triple focus. As Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, he tells us, as he shows a servant's heart, so must we also do the same. This is to fulfill what he earlier said: "The Son of Man has come to served, not to be served, to lay down his life for the many."
At the supper, Jesus fulfills his prophetic teaching on giving us his Body and his Blood to drink. Again tonight, we eat of his Body and drink of his Blood of the New Covenant, so that we may live forever in union with him. The third focus is to spend time with him in prayer. "Watch and stay awake. For the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." This is indeed a special night of grace for us. This is the beginning celebration of our salvation.
