Thought of the Day April 20, 2021 Repentance--2
The
message and mission Jesus gave the disciples on Easter Sunday was to preach
repentance for the forgiveness of sins. He told them: “As the Father has sent
me, so I send you.” The first message of Jesus when he began his public
ministry was a call to repent and turn away from sin. The same message Jesus
gives the Apostles to preach. It is the same message the Church preaches today
to the world.
Reflect on these words of Pope Francis. “It is repentance that
allows us not to harden, to turn no to God into yes, and yes to sin into no for
the sake of the Lord. The will of the Father, who every day gently speaks to
our conscience, is carried out only in the form of repentance and continuous conversion.
In the end, everyone has two paths ahead of them: to be repentant sinners or
hypocritical sinners. But what matters is not the reasoning that justifies and
attempts to save appearances, but a heart that moves forward with the Lord,
struggles every day, repents and returns to Him. Because the Lord seeks the
pure of heart, not pure on the outside".
Because we sin regularly, we are called to repent regularly. Lord, have mercy on me a sinner. Help me to turn no to you into yes.
