Thought of the Day May 24, 2021 "Do the works I do."
This week we continue to reflect
on the Holy Spirit, especially some of the gifts of the Spirit, which Jesus and
the Apostles evidenced. These gifts are meant to be normative for Jesus’
disciples. Recall what Jesus said at the Last Supper. “Amen, amen, I say to
you, whoever believes in me shall also do the works that I do. And greater
things than these shall he do, for I go to the Father” (John 14:12). Mark
confirms this giving us, from his perspective, Jesus’s last message to the
Apostles before his Ascension. “Now these signs will accompany those who
believe. In my name, they shall cast out demons. They will speak in new
languages. They will take up serpents, and, if they drink anything deadly, it
will not harm them. They shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they will be
well” (Mark 16:17-18).
In each case, those who believe in
Jesus will be able to do these signs and wonders in the name of Jesus by the
power of the Holy Spirit.
What are some of the works which Jesus did in the power of the Holy Spirit, which he wants us to be open to, following the lead of the Spirit? Come, Holy Spirit, come! Pray for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit so you can do the works that Jesus desires.
