Thought of the Day July 21, 2021 My true identity and inheritance
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states in #1265 "Baptism not only purifies from all sins, but also makes the neophyte 'a new creature,' an adopted son of God, who has become a 'partaker of the divine nature,' member of Christ and co-heir with him, and a temple of the Holy Spirit."
Baptism gives me my real and true identity, not creation.
Creation gives me the identity of a creature, like any other creature. But
Baptism gives me the identity of a son or daughter of God. Something radically takes place in me,
invisible but real. Truly a transformation. Not only do I continue to
experience the reality of human life, but now I share in the very life of God,
not by any merit of my own, but due totally to the merciful love of God. My
inheritance when I was born was tenuous, depending on what material goods my
parents would leave me. However, my inheritance as a result of baptism is
eternal life with God. How have I responded to this gift of identity and
inheritance?
