Thought of the Day August 11, 2021 Peace I give you
Jesus says, “Peace I
leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to
you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
What is this peace that Jesus wants to give us that is
different from what is commonly thought of as peace? Does it mean freedom from difficulties and
questions? Does it mean no problems? This is utopia not peace. Jesus is our
peace. In the midst of all our difficulties, questions, struggles,
uncertainties, the presence of Jesus is there to guide us through with
confidence. It is not a surface peace but the reassurance in faith that no
matter what occurs we are in the loving hand of God. Paul in his Letter to the
Romans helps us to understand this peace. “For I am convinced that neither death, nor
life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future
things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth,* nor any other creature will be
able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Roms
8:38-39) Our peace comes with the conviction that we are loved by God, who
remains with us and in us. Remain in that peace, no matter what.
