Thought of the Day February 28, 2022 Lent and sin
“Let us not grow tired of uprooting evil from
our lives. May the corporal fasting to which Lent calls us fortify our spirit
for the battle against sin. Let us not grow tired of asking for forgiveness in
the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, knowing that God never tires of
forging. Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our
harvest, if we do not give up. So then, while we have the opportunity, let us
do good to all.” (Pope Francis)
As we begin this new season of pilgrimage to the Pascal Mysteries of Jesus’ death and resurrection, the Holy Father gives us one of our focus. Sin. What is the sin in our life that hinders our deeper relationship with Jesus? As Jesus died for this sin, he is inviting us to die to it as well. Otherwise, how can there be a sharing in his resurrected life? So what will it take, with God’s grace, for this sin to be uprooted? It will not happen overnight, since it is deeply rooted in our heart. But if we begin to chisel at it and begin the process of uprooting it, then we may see some progress. That sin is a vice. What virtue do I need to work on as I am uprooting the source of that sin in my life?
