Thought of the Day May 30, 2022 Be attentive to the Spirit's grace
"In the same way the Holy Spirit, whose nature is always the same, simple and indivisible, apportions grace to each man as he wills. Like a dry tree which puts forth shoots when watered, the soul bears the fruit of holiness when repentance has made it worthy of receiving the Holy Spirit. Although the Spirit never changes, the effects of this action, by the will of God and in the name of Christ, are both many and marvelous." ( St Cyril of Jerusalem)
As we prepare for the celebration of Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit in a fresh new way in our lives today, we need to be totally opened to what the Spirit desires to do in our lives. When we yield to the Holy Spirit, he is free to move in our lives to bring about good in others. We have to learn to be attentive to the grace of the present moment. It may be a persistent thought to call someone. It may be taking time to pray with people who ask us to pray for them, not just say I will pray for you. As you read the scriptures attentively, a new insight or understanding of God's Word comes to light. Someone may ask for advice, ask the Holy Spirit to put on your heart what he wants you to say. The ways of the Spirit are many. The effects may depend on our openness. Like an electric current in a building, if the switch is not turned on, though there is current, it is hindered until the switch is turned on. Come, Holy Spirit, come!
