Thought of the Day December 1 2022 Let go control
"To wait with openness and trust is an enormously radical attitude toward life. It is choosing to hope that something is happening for us that is far beyond our own imaginings. It is giving up control over our future and letting God define our life. It is living with the conviction that God molds us in love, holds us in tenderness, and moves us away from the sources of our fear.
Our spiritual life is a life in which we wait, actively present to the moment, expecting that new things will happen to us, new things that are far beyond our own imagination or prediction. This, indeed, is a very radical stance toward life in a world preoccupied with control." (Henri Nouwen)
Control is a very important factor of our lives. There is the fear that if we are not in control that our life would be at risk. Control of our life is in opposition to God's plan for us. To be able to trust this is a grace, but one that God offers us. He calls us to surrender our will to his, our plans and dreams to him, our need to know and decide the future to him. To surrender is not abdication on our part, but to align our wills with his. We know how often trying to be in control of everything has not always worked. We know that when we are in line with God's plan how things are better. For Jesus to come into our life in a new way this Advent, we have to let go control and allow him to have his way.
