Thought of the Day July 31, 2023 Change
Thomas a’Kempis said: “Be not angry that you cannot make others as
you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.” L.
Tolstoy also said: “Everybody thinks of changing humanity and
nobody thinks of changing himself.” "Some people will change when they see the
light. Others change only when they feel the heat.”
Change is not easy for us. Many of us prefer the status quo. Yet, nature is in a flux of constant change. Change is going on in our bodies without us being aware. Cells are being regenerated for the well being of our body. Change is going on in us spiritually as well. Sometimes that change is not for our good. Other times it is God's grace and our response drawing us closer to him. The more we cooperate with the change God is bringing within us, the better it is for us. The problem is just as we resist change externally, we often resist change internally. It is easy for us to see the splinter in the other person's eye but fail to see the plank in our own eye. The plank in my eye blinds me, unless I remove it and allow the grace of the light of God to give me clarity and strength to continue to change. Don't wait for the heat of God's chastisement.
