Thought of the Day August 3, 2023 Surrender

 Charles de Foucauld once wrote a prayer of abandonment that expresses beautifully the spiritual attitude we need to embrace:

Father, I abandon myself into your hands,
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you;
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures.

I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,
and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.

This prayer reflects the prayer of Jesus on the cross. He entrusted himself into the hands of the Father. It was the will of the Father that Jesus sought to do no matter the cost to him. This is the message Jesus wants to teach us. In the Father's will for us is our fulfillment and eternal peace. Even if his will includes the cross, he reminds us of the resurrection that follows. Whom else do we have but God? Who else loves us and wishes the eternal best for us, but God? Pray this prayer frequently so that our eyes will always be on the Lord.
