Thought of the Day October 16, 2023 Be a blessing
“Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat
their own fruit; the sun does not shine on itself, and flowers do not spread
their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are
all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is... life is good when
you’re happy; but much better when others are
happy because of you.” Pope Francis.
We have been blessed in many ways. What are we doing with those blessings? Are they given to us for our enjoyment or given to us so that we can be a blessing to others? Like the man in the Gospel parable, if we bury our blessing for our enjoyment only, we will lose the blessing we have been given. But if we share with another, then our blessing will increase. Such is the paradox of a life in relationship with God. Ask God whom he wishes you to be a blessing today and then give to that person what has been given to you. Like the widow to whom Elijah asked for a loaf of bread, when she had enough oil to feed herself and her child one last time, her cup of oil never diminished for a whole year.
