What an attitude! What a focus! St. Hilary was reflecting the words of St. Paul, who said: "Whatever you do in word or deed, do it in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Even though this may be hard to achieve fully each day, what if we strove to do so? Would our life not be richer? This was the motivation of those we call Desert Fathers. They wanted to devote themselves to the service of God in everything without distractions from the world. We don't have to leave the world to do this. We need to remind ourselves throughout the day of how we are to live in union with God.
