Thought of the Day May 27, 2024 The Spirit comes to those who ask
"Pentecost is not over. In fact, it is continually going on in every time and in every place, because the Holy Spirit desired to give Himself to all men...and all who want Him can always receive Him, so we do not have to envy the Apostles and the first believers; we only have to dispose ourselves like them to receive Him well...and He will come to us as He did to them." Blessed Elena Guerra
What does she mean to dispose ourselves? On the Day of Pentecost, Peter responded to those who asked what must they do: "Do penance; and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your sons, and for all who are far away; for whomever the Lord our God will have called." (Acts 2:38-39) Peter was elaborating on what Jesus taught. "Therefore, if you, being evil, how much more will your Father give, from heaven, the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?" (Lk11:13) We have received the Holy Spirit in Baptism and Confirmation. We need to ask God to stir into flame this gift in a fresh new way, so that we can more faithfully follow the lead of the Spirit in our lives.
