To cover up our own faults we try to throw a spotlight on another’s faults. This is a deliberate distraction. Jesus said: “Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 5:7) Our first responsibility is to uproot our own sins, so that we can help others to deal with their sins. In that way, we can become an example of how it can be done, and at the same time encourage the other in love rather than in judgment and self-righteousness.
