Thought of the Day August 2, 2024 The Eucharist

By 10:46 AM

“The Eucharist is the supreme proof of the love of Jesus. After this, there is nothing more but Heaven itself.” St. Peter Julian Eymard

God in the Old Testament provided Manna in the desert to feed his people with the Bread come down from heaven. God provided the Eucharist, the New Manna which is life giving. The Manna of the Old Testament could not be kept overnight, but gathered daily to show dependence on the Lord for their sustenance. The Manna of the New Testament remains in us, because we share in God’s Divine Life. In the Old Testament God, at first dwelt in a tent, then in a Temple, to remain with his people. In New Testament times, God dwells in the Tabernacle of our Churches. He is there because he wants, not only to be in us, but to be with us, such is his great love. In all this he is preparing us for his eternal presence and eternal banquet in heaven, the culmination of his gifts.
