We search for peace outside of ourselves, because we do not find peace within, due to our sins. But no created person or thing externally can fill the chasm within. Jesus gave us the answer to our quest. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you.” (John 14:27) What is this peace? It comes from a right relationship with God. Where there is serious sin, our relationship is severed. When this relationship is restored, then the peace which is a quality of our oneness with God is present. Rest in this peace, for it is the peace that will be eternal.
