Thought of the Day October 24, 2024 Perfection
"Christian perfection consists in three things: praying heroically, working heroically, and suffering heroically. St. Anthony Claret (1807-1870)
What does this mean or look like?
I think that St. Paul summarized this way of living in these words. "And whatever you do, in
word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to
God the Father through him." "Heroically" is not meant to be
understood from the aspect of quantity but quality. It is not the time we spend
in prayer, or work or suffering, but the focus of our prayer, work or
suffering. Some saints were called by God to greater prayer, work and
suffering. However, most saints lived ordinary lives, doing ordinary things in
an extraordinary way, namely, living a life in union with Jesus. That is the
road for most of us.
