Thought of the Day November 14, 2024 Be still and listen
“There is One very near you who knocks at your door every hour of the day, who begs you to listen to Him and to keep silence… in order to hear Him.” St. Just Bretenieres (1838-1866)
We are better in
speaking than listening, at times, especially when it comes to listening in
silence to the Lord. Prayer is both speaking and listening. Sometimes our
prayer is one sided, namely speaking. To be still and silently wait upon the
Lord, if he chooses to share with us, is an important part of our relationship
with God. Whether he speaks or not in the silence of our heart is not the
issue. Our silence in listening is acknowledging that he is Lord and God. We
are his. He is God and we are not. Be still and know that he is God and, like
the prophet Elijah, we may hear God in the quiet whisper of the stillness of
our heart and voice.
