Thought of the Day March 6, 2025 The chastisement of the Lord

By 10:44 AM

Psalm 6:2-3 “O Lord, do not rebuke me in your fury, nor chastise me in your anger. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones have become disturbed,”

God chastises us not in anger but in love. Hebrews 12:6-7 “For whomever the Lord loves, he chastises. And every son whom he accepts, he scourges. Persevere in discipline. God presents you to himself as sons. But what son is there, whom his father does not correct?” In the Old Testament God chastised the Chosen People when they strayed far from him. He does the same with us. His chastisement has a corrective purpose, to bring us back to him. His chastisement is done in mercy now, so that he doesn’t have to chastise us in justice, which is eternal alienation from him. Lord, have mercy, for I have sinned.
